What this site collects

The short version: this site measures which pages are read and which of 7 things a visitor does, and it does not sell anything about you. One place asks who you are — the Reception scan, which needs a name, a business name and an email before it will run, and says so on the form.

What is measured

Every page view, and these 7 actions. This list is generated from the same file the tracking code reads, so it cannot fall out of step with what the site actually does.

page_view
Any route renders, including a client-side navigation.
scan_start
A Reception scan report page loads, meaning a scan was accepted and started.
contact_click
A visitor clicks the phone number or the email address.
ladder_select
A visitor clicks one of the three engagement-ladder cards on the home page.
post_open
A visitor clicks a post title in the list on /insights.
intro_enter
A visitor on /intro clicks ENTER, which is the only link off that page.
channel_turn
A visitor turns the channel knob on the home set and it takes them to that channel's page.

Along with each one: the page you were on, your browser and device type, the approximate location your network resolves to, and whether you arrived from a search engine, a link or an advert. Standard web measurement, and none of it identifies you by name. What you type into the Reception form is separate from all of it, and is covered below.

Who receives it

These services, and no others. Each is loaded directly by this site, so this list is what is in the page you are reading.

What those companies then do with it is governed by their policies rather than this one, which is why they are linked rather than summarised here.

What this site deliberately does not do

These are decisions, not omissions, and each one was made on purpose.

  • No email is attached to advertising. Pinterest’s tag can be installed with an “enhanced match” parameter that sends a visitor’s email address on every page load. It is switched off here and the parameter is not present in the page.
  • Nothing about you is sold. No data from this site is sold, rented or traded.
  • No account is required to read anything here, and nothing asks you to make one.
  • Scan reports are not indexed. A Reception report is an audit of somebody’s own website. Search engines are blocked from the whole /reception/scan/ path, and the reports carry instructions not to index them.

If you run a Reception scan

The free scan reads the pages of the website address you give it — the same pages any visitor or search engine can already reach — and scores what it finds.

The form asks who you are before the scan runs. Your first name, your last initial, your business name and your email address. A last initial rather than a surname, because one letter is enough to tell two people apart and a surname is more than this needs to know.

Stored with the report: those four details, the address you entered, the business type you chose, and the findings. InTheVisual Marketing can see all of it — your details alongside what the scan found on your site. That is the point of asking, and we may follow up about it. Your details are not sold, not traded, and not attached to any advertising.

The report itself has an unguessable address. Anyone who has that link can open it, so treat it the way you would treat any private link.

You can have your details and your reports removed by asking. There is no form for that and there does not need to be — email info@inthevisualmarketing.com and say so.

Cookies

This site sets no cookies of its own. The services above set theirs — Google Analytics uses cookies beginning _ga, and Pinterest uses cookies including _pinterest_ct_ua and _epik — to tell one visit from another. The names and lifetimes belong to those companies and can change; their policies, linked above, are authoritative.

There is no cookie banner on this site. Every browser can block or clear cookies, and browser settings, private windows and tracker blocking all work normally here — nothing on this site tries to get around them.

Asking us about your data

Write to us and ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. We will answer. If you are asking about a saved Reception report, include the website address it was run on.

Changes

When what this site collects changes, the list above changes with it, because both are read from the same file. The date at the top moves when the policy itself changes.
